Wolf Alice’s second album Visions of a Life has won them the 2018 Mercury Music Prize.

The group beat the likes of Noel Gallagher, Lily Allen and Nadine Shah for the prestigious award.

The four piece performed their single Don’t Delete The Kisses, alongside performances from the 11 other nominees this evening at Hammersmith Apollo.

Accepting the award from Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo, front woman Ellie Rowsell said: “This means so much to pick this up with my three best friends.”

Wolf Alice walk away with the winners trophy, title and an impressive £25,000 in prize money to put towards their future music projects.

The Hyundai Mercury Prize aims to promote the best of UK music each year. The prize celebrates the chosen 12 ‘Albums of the Year’, recognising artistic accomplishments across a range of genres, before selecting an overall winner on the day.

The judging panel said: “From an incredibly broad list of remarkable music, Wolf Alice emerged as the overall winner due to their ability to deliver an album that combines the epic and intimate in equal measure. It is a journey of a record – with euphoric festival anthems and moments of subtle beauty – it is an album articulated with confidence and adventure. For them, the world awaits!”.
